Death to Sheep 15.11.10

What's that hook above the door for? Oh, ha, oh! Silly me. For the Sacrificial sheep corpses. That was actually my first guess, wow, guess who feels like an idiot.

Packed and Ready 14.11.10

The onset of nostalgia and realization that I've built such a life for myself here in Rabat set in today as I packed my bags to go home.

Tuesday I leave my homestay to visit my village family for Aid (the Muslim equivalent of Christmas). I plan on bringing them a soccer ball, nailpolish, and various other things for my host siblings in Lutechina.

There are strange parallels in the largest of holidays between Christians and Muslims. Each family owns one big something that all other families also own one big something of. During our Christmas season in the U.S. you begin to see Santas and Frosty the Snowmen and Grinches in shop stores. Garland drapes and lights around trees are also common. We buy trees. Muslims buy sacrificial goats. This translates into an overabundance of hay stacks and knives (all sorts) in the souqs (markets). Sheep are kept in the homes. They just kick it. Cause, you know...where else would they be?

It's been raining in Rabat the past few days and it really didn't hit me that I leave so soon. I am home one month from today. Granted, I bet you all didn't know I was coming home that soon either, but that's mostly because I haven't updated in for what seems like eternity.

Peace,

Raleigh
